A wonderfully weathered vintage carpenter's chest, made in Canada and distinguished by its substantial construction, warm aged wood and extensive darkened steel hardware.
The chest features a hinged lid with a raised central plank, reinforced steel corner plates and straps, original hinges and a central latch. The exterior has developed a rich, naturally aged patina with visible wear, scratches, dents and surface marks accumulated over time. The character of the wood and the contrasting steel hardware give the piece a particularly strong rustic-industrial quality.
The interior retains its original construction, including built-in compartments and storage divisions, making it as functional as it is decorative.
The age and original maker are unknown, although the construction and materials suggest a utilitarian Canadian workshop or carpenter's chest.
