Artist Biography
Bernd Koberling (Born 1938) is active/lives in Germany. He is known for Painting.
Bernd Koberling shaped a whole generation. He was one of the founders of the young wild ones, the painterly movement that represented extreme vehemence and impetuosity with its neo-expressive, brightly colored, impulsive and highly emotional works. Koberling's works often show combinations of filigree, flexible and light forms, powerful and dynamic, spontaneous and concentrated at the same time and always with reference to nature. Nature as the center of art, the landscape as a symbol of human existence. His pictures always move along the border to abstraction. Born in 1939, the Berliner decided to become an artist while training as a chef, when one evening after working in the kitchen he felt the need to paint something. Since he had no paper available, he made use of shoeboxes as a painting surface. Even then he was fascinated by the freedom of the abstract. The three resulting pictures filled him so much that he decided to pursue this activity full-time in the future. He has been a professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin since 1988, and in 2006 he received the Fred Thieler Prize - an award for artists who have their life and creative focus in Germany and whose work is outside of the current market position in the development of contemporary art relates.
