Heriz is the great village weave of northwest Persia, known for drawing everything from straight lines and steps rather than curves — bold, confident, and built to be lived on. The pattern here is the Harshang, one of the oldest all-over designs in the Persian repertoire: large serrated palmettes with outstretched arms, set in offset rows across a lattice, with combs, arrows and small rosettes filling between them. Collectors also file this drawing under Bidjar, Bakhshaish and Persian all-over geometric.

The field is a deep navy, nearly black, and the drawing sits on it in madder, sky blue, ivory, apricot and walnut brown, so every form reads clearly. Ten large palmettes run the length of the field, no two coloured alike. The wide madder-red main border carries rosettes and boteh on a vine, framed by a slate-blue guard and a fine ivory outer stripe. Even knotting throughout, wool with a good natural sheen.

Condition: excellent. Even pile, original selvedges, original hand-tied fringe. No repairs, no stains, no odour.

Measures 10 ft 1 in wide by 13 ft 8 in long (121 x 164 in).
