Sultanabad is the most sought-after of all decorative Persian designs. Woven in the Arak region from the 1880s for the Ziegler company and the Western market, it broke from dense city drawing in favour of large, open, generously spaced palmettes and vine — which is exactly why designers still reach for it. Collectors also file this drawing under Ziegler, Mahal and Persian all-over floral.

The field here is a soft indigo blue, unusual for the design and far harder to find than the common rust. Across it run large palmettes, vase forms and split arabesque leaves in madder, ivory, sage and camel, arranged symmetrically but drawn loosely enough to breathe. The wide madder main border carries paired palmettes on a vine between ivory guards. Good natural abrash through the blue gives the field depth.

Condition: excellent. Even pile throughout, original selvedges, original hand-tied fringe. No repairs, no stains, no odour.
