Sourced in Northern Italy, the bowl measures approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter and weighs an unusually substantial 984 grams (2.17 lbs). Its density and heavily cast construction give it a remarkably solid feel in the hand.

The form is especially striking. Deep radiating flutes rise into a multi-lobed, scalloped rim, creating the architectural baccellato effect associated with Renaissance and Baroque-inspired European metalwork. The pronounced modeling gives the pewter considerable visual depth and allows the surface to catch light beautifully.

The reverse bears a fascinating group of historic marks. Two adjoining oval cartouches are surmounted by crowns: one appears to contain a profile portrait bust, while the second contains an armorial or heraldic shield. Additional deeply struck fleur-de-lis punches flank the central marks.

While the precise workshop and meaning of the crowned touchmarks would benefit from specialist identification, their complexity and heraldic character make this an especially compelling example for collectors of early pewter and European decorative arts.

An old iron hanging loop is attached to the reverse, indicating that the bowl was at some point intended or adapted for display. This makes it particularly well suited to a gallery wall, hutch, sideboard, or layered collection of antique European metalware.

The pewter retains a rich dark-gray antiquarian patina with surface oxidation, scratches, wear, and irregularities accumulated over a long period of use. It has been left unpolished, preserving the depth and character of the historic surface.
