Trees are the subject here rather than the land. Nine tall cypresses stand down the length of the rug, each one drawn differently and hung with beaded blossoms in blue, cream, rose and green, and between them spread bare-branched almonds, round fruit trees and low flowering shrubs. Small deer, goats and birds move through every band. The grounds shift as the eye travels — red at the top, then grey, blue, green and a broad gold field at the foot — and each carries a strong horizontal abrash, the natural banding of hand-spun yarn dyed in small batches.

Hand-knotted with a full even pile, no wear, no repairs, no odour. Selvedges are intact and both ends finish in the original fringe with coloured tassels. At 30 by 77 inches it suits a hallway, an entry, a galley kitchen or a landing, and the full palette works in bohemian, eclectic, maximalist and warm traditional rooms. See less
