The land runs the length of the rug in folded bands. A wide indigo field scattered with small rosettes lies across the middle, with a flock of horses and goats walking a pale blue ridge below it, and burgundy hills above and beneath. Trees stand throughout — bare-branched almonds in cream and brown, a tall red cypress worked in fine detail, and a flowering tree rising from a blue vase at the foot of the rug. Every ground carries a strong horizontal abrash, the natural banding of hand-spun yarn dyed in small batches, which is what gives the hills their depth.

Hand-knotted with a full even pile, no wear, no repairs, no odour. Selvedges are intact and both ends finish in the original fringe with coloured tassels. At 33 by 80 inches it suits a hallway, an entry, a galley kitchen or a landing, and the burgundy and indigo work in bohemian, eclectic, traditional and warm modern rooms. See less
