A small red sun rises behind a dark hill at the top of the rug, and below it the land opens out band by band. A wide sage-green orchard is planted with flowering trees and grazing animals; a pale ridge crosses beneath it; then gold plains, a deep indigo night sky scattered with white stars, and blue water at the foot. Trees stand throughout — almonds in blossom, pomegranates heavy with fruit, one large flowering tree at the centre of the gold band — and small horses, goats, dogs and birds move between them. Every ground carries a strong horizontal abrash, the natural banding of hand-spun yarn dyed in small batches.

Hand-knotted with a full even pile, no wear, no repairs, no odour. Selvedges are intact and both ends finish in the original fringe with coloured tassels. At 37 by 58 inches it suits an entry, a bedside, a study or a nursery, layers well over jute or sisal, and hangs well as a woven picture. See less
