The tree rises from a small vase and spreads its branches to fill the field, drawn in dark aubergine and hung with tiny birds, blossoms and leaves in red, blue, green, cream and gold — no two the same. Deer and goats stand in the ground around it, and deep burgundy bands close the rug at each end, flecked with white like snow on a hillside, with pale cream ridges between. The terracotta ground carries a strong horizontal abrash, the natural banding of hand-spun yarn dyed in small batches, which gives the field depth and movement.

Hand-knotted with a full even pile throughout, no wear, no repairs, no odour. Selvedges are intact and both ends finish in the original fringe. At 24 by 36 inches it suits an entry, a bedside, a kitchen or a child's room, layers well over jute or sisal, and hangs well on a wall as a small woven picture. See less
