Artisan-crafted in France, the table draws inspiration from the grandeur of French royal interiors and the refined ornamentation of 18th-century neoclassical design.
The large circular tabletop is richly decorated with elaborate gilt-bronze scrollwork, floral motifs, ribbon-and-bow details and classical ornamentation. Set within this intricate surface are sixteen beautiful porcelain portrait medallions, each depicting an elegantly dressed famous French woman in period costume. Their delicate colors, fine details and individual expressions contrast beautifully with the surrounding gold decoration.
At the centre of the tabletop is a much larger porcelain composition depicting King Louis XIV. The image is a copy made after the celebrated portrait of Louis XIV by French court painter Hyacinthe Rigaud. The original portrait can be seen in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The porcelain portrait is surrounded by a deep cobalt-blue border with elaborate gold decoration and framed by a contrasting black circular surround, creating a dramatic focal point.
The sculptural pedestal base is equally impressive. A glossy black central column is surrounded by richly modelled gilt-bronze supports, scrolling ornaments, garlands and classical details. The shaped black base is further embellished with gold medallions and pierced decorative borders, completing the luxurious black-and-gold composition.
