Vintage 1950s-1960s pair of hand-carved wooden female bust sculptures, each measuring approximately 11.5” tall.
These pieces have a distinctive, primitive hand-carved appearance, with elongated facial features, carved hair/head coverings, decorative incised elements, and highly individual variations between the two sculptures. The pair is similar in overall form but is not perfectly identical in height, carving, or details, consistent with individually hand-carved pieces.
The forms may possibly reflect influences associated with Yoruba, Fon, Cameroon, or other West/Central African traditions, but this is not confirmed and no specific tribal attribution is being made.
