The kettle is notable for its entirely copper construction. The body, domed lid, broad swing handle, riveted mounts, gooseneck spout, hinged spout cover and visible hardware all appear to be copper rather than the mixed brass-and-copper construction often found on later examples.

Its handmade character is easy to see. The opening and fitted lid are slightly irregular, the spout is subtly off center, and the hardware incorporates hand-formed rivets, a rolled copper lid finial and individually fabricated hinge work.

The copper has developed a rich, warm surface with darkened patina, oxidation and traces of generations of use. These variations give the kettle exceptional depth and presence rather than a polished reproduction appearance.

The previous owner stated that the kettle descended through her mother-in-law’s family and had long been considered pre-1900. Its construction is consistent with a 19th-century date, likely circa 1850–1890. No maker’s mark has been found.
