Constructed in an … Read more A versatile bookcase, étagère, or display cabinet crafted with twelve open cubby compartments and seven graduated drawers. Constructed in an Arts and Crafts style in the form of Chinese "duobaoge" ("many treasures") cabinets, the case is constructed with open compartments for showcasing porcelain, books, bronzes, or small objects. The compartments sit above a run of seven apothecary-style drawers, each fitted with a darkly patinated iron ring pull. The entire case is raised on four squared and straight legs. The piece is joined entirely with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, and the timber has been left natural in its warm honey-toned finish. The case is solid and heavy with excellent joinery and craftsmanship. The wood construction appears to be reclaimed teak or elm from Southeast Asia. Crafted in the late 20th century or early 21st century by The Wooden Duck, a now-closed artisanal and sustainable furniture maker in Berkeley, California.
