Our adorable elephant lamp, most likely 1920 vintage, is made of spelter (white metal) with its original painted finish; the various bits of lighting hardware are of solid brass or copper; a rayon covered cord completes the antique look. The socket contains a turn-switch which operates three-wattage bulb (available online or at a hardware store; a standard on-off bulb can also be used). The wonderfully designed and crafted elephant looks animated, trunk raised and moving forward. The painted patina, as mentioned, is original, with touchups to the black color and the tusks repainted. The shade is new and is made of red fabric with a white interior, with plastic beads that look like faceted glass.

The shade has a white-painted metal apparatus that rests just inside a vintage brass 2 1/4 inch Uno shade fitter. Two small black plastic ties will be included to secure the shade fitter in the Uno fitter if you prefer. The shade is secure, but if it's bumped it could go on a tilt without the ties. On the other hand, the bulb will keep it from falling.

Altogether the lamp stands 20 inches high, 9 1/2 wide. The elephant stands 8 inches high (at the top of the trunk) and about 10 inches front to back including the tusks. See less
