Published as plates v, vi and vii in dr. Gustav adolph kenngott’s “naturgeschichte des mineralreichs für schule und haus,” these chromolithographed plates combine scientific mineralogical study with exceptionally attractive color and graphic composition. Plate v is devoted largely to quartz and silica minerals, including smoky quartz crystals, amethyst quartz, rock crystal, heliotrope, jasper and varieties of chalcedony. Plate vi features richly patterned agates and ornamental stones, including chalcedony, fortification agate, moss agate, chrysoprase, onyx, banded agate and opal. Plate vii illustrates tourmaline and associated minerals, including rubellite, green tourmaline, sapphire, augite, diopside, amphibole, serpentine and related specimens. Together the three sheets form a particularly attractive mineralogical group, combining crystalline forms, cut stones and large natural mineral specimens in subdued yet rich late 19th-century coloring. These are original antique prints published in 1888, not modern reproductions. Author / editor: dr.
