An important and highly decorative solid wood chest bench, richly carved in the Renaissance style, dating from the 19th century.

The high back features a remarkable architectural composition.

It is divided into three rectangular molded panels adorned with carved rosettes, separated by pilasters decorated with palmettes and foliage.

The upper section is particularly elaborate, with a frieze composed of a series of carved arcades, surmounted by an elegant pediment with scrolls and foliage, centered by a large rosette.

Two female heads carved in high relief are positioned at the upper ends of the back and reinforce the Renaissance character of the piece.

The substantial curved armrests rest at the front on turned baluster-shaped supports.

The wooden seat has a beautiful patina from use and opens to reveal a large storage space: this piece thus fulfills the dual function of a bench and a chest.

The lower section echoes the rich decorative vocabulary of the backrest with three panels adorned with rosettes, separated by uprights carved with palmettes.

The whole piece rests on small ball feet.

A very beautiful, old brown patina reveals the nuances and natural wear of the wood.

The numerous signs of use contribute fully to the authentic character of this piece.

A substantial bench-chest, particularly well-suited for furnishing an entryway, library, vestibule, or period home.
