Its expressive … Read more This monumental tufted wall tapestry was created by Dutch textile artist Anneke van der Heijden during the 1980s. Its expressive abstract composition combines vivid red and magenta fields with freely curved forms in cobalt and deep blue, all framed by a broad cream border.

Design
The design has a strong sense of movement. Irregular blue elements appear to drift across the surface, while diagonal red passages and fine cream lines divide the larger areas of colour. The contrast between these graphic shapes and the dense, tactile pile gives the work both visual depth and a sculptural presence.

Its tufted construction produces a soft, richly textured surface that changes subtly with the direction of the light. Despite its substantial size, the balanced composition and restrained palette of saturated primary colours allow the tapestry to work naturally as a large-scale wall piece in a living room, gallery, office or hospitality interior.

Condition
The tapestry is signed “Anneke van der Heijden” on the reverse. It remains in good vintage condition, with signs of age and use consistent with a textile from the 1980s, mainly some discoloration. Please refer to the detailed photographs. This piece has an attribution mark,
