This refined pre-war ceramic vessel combines traditional Dutch blue-and-white craftsmanship with a beautifully aged brass lid, creating a sophisticated decorative object with strong historic and collector appeal.

The rounded glazed earthenware body is richly hand-painted in deep cobalt blue with a detailed Dutch landscape and maritime scene, framed by scrolling rococo-inspired ornamentation. The composition features figures, architecture, coastal scenery and sailing vessels, reflecting the historic visual language associated with traditional Dutch Delftware and blue-and-white European ceramics. The reverse is finished with a separate hand-painted floral motif.

The fitted brass lid displays an attractive natural patina developed over decades, adding warmth and contrast to the crisp cobalt decoration. Beneath the lid is the original ceramic humidifying insert, part of the jar’s functional design and originally intended to help preserve tobacco. The underside is marked “Made in Holland”, with the Goedewaagen Gouda factory mark and impressed model number 1463, confirming its Dutch manufacture and historic origin.
