Warm ochre and ivory architecture complement the luminous blues of water and sky, while textured brushwork brings the rocky shoreline into focus. Paule Bisman (1897–1973) was a Belgian painter and sculptor born in Namur. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Namur before continuing her training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Her paintings encompassed portraits, interiors, townscapes and landscapes, while her figurative bronzes reflected the influence of Art Deco. Working across both disciplines, she combined traditional craftsmanship with a sensitive understanding of form and expression, qualities evident in the textured architecture and atmospheric depth of “Adriatic Coastline.”
