Rising above the tiled rooftops and mature trees, the village church creates a commanding focal point, while a sunlit field of golden grasses draws the eye into the landscape. Born in Sicily in 1953, José Salvaggio moved to France at an early age and established himself as an accomplished painter of landscapes and urban views. He studied in Paris with Paul Anderbouhr and later attended the school of Émilie Simon, where he worked with Claude Marin. Known for painting directly from life, Salvaggio is particularly admired for his ability to capture changing light, seasonal color and the immediate character of a place through confident, Impressionistic brushwork. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and are held in private and public collections throughout Europe, North America and Japan.
Signed Salvaggio in the lower right and on the back side. Presented in a painted wood frame with antique gold accents that complements the painting’s softly illuminated palette.
