Wonderful antique circa 1920s–1930s wooden clipboard storage box, combining a functional writing surface with an enclosed compartment for documents, papers or supplies.
Constructed of richly aged wood, the hinged front features an early metal spring clipboard mechanism at the top. Opening the front reveals a deep interior storage compartment with an original-style metal chain stay that limits the movement of the door. The simple utilitarian construction and heavily aged surface give the piece wonderful authentic character.
Originally designed as a practical office, workshop, commercial or institutional organizer, today it makes an especially interesting piece of primitive and industrial decor. It could be used for storing papers and ephemera or incorporated into a farmhouse, mercantile, office or vintage shop display.
The wood retains a warm dark reddish-brown finish with substantial wear from decades of use, while the metal hardware has developed an appropriately aged patina.
