A wonderfully sculptural late-19th-century French barbotine plate attributed to Longchamp, decorated in soft turquoise, cream, brown and pale violet glazes. The molded design incorporates stylized asparagus tips around the rim, raised botanical details, and a shell-shaped section at the base. The combination of organic forms and softly blended majolica glazes gives the piece a particularly decorative appearance. This form is associated with the French tradition of elaborate asparagus services produced during the late 19th century, when specialty tableware became fashionable for formal dining. The plate is unmarked, as many examples of this Longchamp model are, but the molded form and glaze decoration closely correspond to known Longchamp examples.

Condition: Good antique decorative condition with age-related wear consistent with its age. There is overall crazing to the glaze, several small chips/glaze losses along the underside edge, and some discoloration and surface marking to the reverse. These underside chips are not readily visible when the plate is displayed face-up. There is also an approximately 1 cm area of glaze loss on the front near the raised decoration. No major cracks or repairs observed. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description. A striking decorative example despite its antique wear, and particularly attractive displayed on a wall, plate stand or open shelving.
