The vessel is constructed in wood with a cylindrical cup secured by a broad brass band. Its extraordinary carved handle incorporates a kneeling male figure wearing a hat and holding a staff, positioned above deeply carved geometric and floral ornament. The combination of functional vessel and highly developed figural carving is characteristic of the Slovak shepherding tradition.

Črpáks were traditionally used in the sheep-farming regions of Slovakia for drinking whey and other dairy liquids. Their handles frequently became vehicles for highly individual folk carving, including geometric, animal, and human motifs. Today they are valued as both ethnographic objects and autonomous works of Central European folk art.

This example has particularly strong sculptural presence, with extensive hand carving, an anthropomorphic finial, pierced handle, and original brass band securing the wooden cup.
