A spectacular Italian Mid-Century Modern sputnik chandelier dating to the 1970s, composed of 60 slender radiating stems designed to support individual textured smoked-glass elements.
The sculptural framework radiates from a central chrome body, creating an explosive spherical form reminiscent of a celestial body, flower, or dandelion seed head. Reflective chrome spheres positioned throughout the composition multiply the surrounding light and add remarkable dimension.
The textured glass elements catch and refract the warm interior light, producing an atmospheric glow and dramatic reflections. The chandelier is equally impressive illuminated or unlit and presents as functional sculpture from every angle.
Closely matching examples have been marketed as Italian 1970s production, with some dealers attributing this distinctive design to Fontana Arte. This chandelier is unmarked, and no manufacturer’s label or independent authentication has been found. It is therefore presented as attributed to Fontana Arte based on comparison with matching documented market examples rather than as a confirmed production.
The chandelier was designed with 60 radiating stems and 60 glass elements. This example includes 58 original-style textured glass pieces; two are missing. Because of the dense arrangement, the two absent pieces do not significantly diminish its dramatic overall presentation. Please review the photographs carefully.
The fixture has been carefully dismantled, thoroughly cleaned, reassembled, and temporarily tested. It illuminates as shown in the photographs. Because this is a vintage electrical fixture, professional inspection and installation by a qualified electrician are recommended.

It retains age-appropriate patina, oxidation, discoloration, surface wear, scratches, and finish variation to the metal framework, chain, and canopy. The textured glass elements may exhibit minor scratches, flea bites, edge wear, bubbles, and manufacturing irregularities. Two of the original 60 glass elements are missing; 58 are included. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition report. Professional electrical inspection and installation are recommended.
