The exceptionally long walnut case features a beautifully shaped and molded top above an architectural façade of raised and serpentine-paneled cabinet doors. Rounded ends continue the paneled treatment around the sides, giving the piece a finished appearance when viewed from an angle.
The lower apron is particularly handsome, richly carved with scrolling acanthus foliage, rocaille and shell ornament and carried on short carved feet. Fluted vertical divisions provide a restrained architectural counterpoint to the flowing curves of the doors and apron. Traditional brass hinges and escutcheons complete the period-inspired design.
Opening the cabinet reveals exceptionally generous storage, including shelved compartments and a section fitted with substantial wooden pull-out trays. The interiors retain vintage patterned shelf lining, adding a charming element of the piece's history.
Its warm walnut coloration and beautifully developed surface are especially attractive. At nearly eleven feet long, this is a true statement piece—ideal as a dining room buffet, grand living-room sideboard, library cabinet, gallery console or dramatic anchor beneath a large-scale work of art.
The unusually long proportions also make it particularly well suited to today's larger architectural interiors, where an ordinary sideboard can simply disappear against a substantial wall.
Excellent vintage condition, with a remarkably well-preserved cabinet, attractive warm finish and only minor surface evidence of age and previous use. The top is particularly impressive considering the extraordinary scale of the piece.
