The chandelier is distinguished by its beautifully balanced linear composition. A slender brass stem descends from a gently flared conical canopy to meet a sculptural central structure formed by two overlapping circular lines. This double-ring motif creates a sense of movement and visual continuity, giving the piece a jewel-like presence while maintaining an exceptionally light silhouette. The two opposing light sources are supported by graceful curved arms that appear to emerge naturally from the central loops. Small pointed brass terminals beneath each arm resemble stylized buds, adding a subtle botanical note to the otherwise disciplined geometry. Each shade rests within an extraordinary petal-shaped brass gallery. The deeply cut, scalloped upper edges open around the glass like a metallic flower, creating an elegant transition between the polished structure and the softly diffused light. These decorative details reflect the sophisticated metalworking associated with Scandinavian lighting of the interwar period. The original shades are made from satin-finished opaline glass with delicate diagonal optic ribbing. Their gently flared, asymmetric profiles give the chandelier a remarkably dynamic appearance: from the front they rise outward like open tulips, while from the side their slender depth emphasizes the almost graphic quality of the composition. When illuminated, the opaline glass filters the light into a warm, even glow while the diagonal ribbing becomes more pronounced, introducing a subtle play of lines and shadows across the surface. When switched off, the shades retain a soft milky translucency that contrasts beautifully with the warm golden tone of the brass. The chandelier’s ornamental restraint, botanical references and finely proportioned brasswork place it within the transition between Swedish Grace and Scandinavian Art Deco. Its design also shares clear stylistic affinities with early Finnish lighting by Paavo Tynell and manufacturers such as Taito and Itsu, particularly in its combination of circular geometry, delicate naturalistic details and softly modelled opaline glass. No signature or manufacturer’s mark has been identified; the chandelier is therefore presented as an anonymous Scandinavian work in the style of Paavo Tynell rather than as a documented attribution. The unusually shallow depth of only 10 centimetres makes this model especially versatile. Despite its sculptural character, it occupies very little visual space and is particularly well suited to an entrance hall, corridor, bedroom, intimate dining area or any interior where a conventional circular chandelier might feel too imposing. The brass retains a warm and attractive vintage patina, with subtle variations and surface marks consistent with its age. These traces have been preserved as part of the chandelier’s history and contribute beautifully to its authentic character. Condition Note: The fixture is preserved in very good vintage condition, with an attractive age-related patina to the brass. The opaline glass shades are well preserved with slight signs of aging. As with all vintage lighting, we recommend professional inspection and rewiring if required for safe operation and compliance with contemporary local electrical standards.
