Executed in solid beechwood with a warm, naturally developed patina, these chairs feature the distinctive architectural frame, gently curved elongated armrests and hand-woven natural rope seats and backrests associated with the celebrated Torres Clavé design. The combination of simple geometric construction, sculptural armrests and traditional woven rope gives the chairs a particularly strong Mediterranean character. Their restrained use of natural materials reflects the principles of Spanish and Catalan modernism while retaining the warmth and craftsmanship of vernacular furniture. The wooden frames display a beautiful aged surface with variations in tone, small marks and wear acquired through decades of use. Rather than being heavily restored, this authentic patina has been preserved and gives the pair considerable character. The natural rope weaving also shows age and traces of use consistent with vintage furniture. Overall, the chairs present beautifully and remain structurally sound.
