Antique botanical original chromolithography (color lithography) print titled 'Rhododendrum Argenteum'. c. 1849

It depicts the rhododendron Grande. This print originates from volume 5 of 'Flore des serres et des jardins de l'Europe' published by Louis van Houtte. This print is broadly attributed in the art market to Louis van Houtte and his co-editor Charles Lemaire. However, the actual hands-on artists executing the breathtaking botanical plates during this period were specialized Belgian printmakers. The drawing would have been done on site in the field and then improved in the lithographing as explained below.
The original artwork in the field was sketched and colored "on the spot" by the legendary British botanist and explorer Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker.
Louis-Constantin Stroobant: The primary artist and lithographer who illustrated the first 10 volumes of the journal (including the 1849 Rhododendron argenteum plate). Van Houtte's workshop, led by lithographer Stroobant, was famous for pushing chromolithography to its absolute peak. They combined machine color printing with delicate, final hand-finished touches to give the rhododendron leaves and petals their luminous, life-like quality.
Louis Benoît van Houtte (1810–1876) was a prominent Belgian horticulturist, botanist, and plant explorer. He is best known for founding the influential horticultural journal [Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe] and running one of Europe's most successful 19th-century commercial nurseries. (wiki)
