This wonderfully unusual late-19th-century Continental European faience vase is richly decorated with molded putti, hand-painted floral garlands, ribbon motifs, and sculptural twin handles in the exuberant Renaissance Revival taste associated with the Historicist period.
The vase was sourced in Budapest, Hungary, from a European antiques dealer who catalogued it as a late-19th-century hand-painted faience vase with putto decoration. Its decorative vocabulary—classical figures, lush botanical ornament, applied relief work, and strong polychrome coloration—reflects the renewed fascination with Renaissance and earlier European ceramic traditions during the late nineteenth century.
Research suggests the piece belongs broadly to the Continental European Renaissance Revival faience tradition, with stylistic parallels found in both Italian and Central European production. Because no identifiable factory mark is present, the maker and exact country of manufacture remain unattributed. A small hand-painted workshop or decorator notation is visible on the underside.
Dating to approximately 1880–1900, the vase measures about 8 inches high and 6.5 inches wide at its broadest point. It is made of glazed earthenware/faience with hand-painted polychrome decoration.
The vase remains in good antique condition with surface wear, glaze irregularities, minor abrasions, and wear to the unglazed foot consistent with age and use. There is also a minor chip along the edge. These age-related characteristics have been retained rather than restored and contribute to the authenticity of the piece. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.

The vase displays age-appropriate surface wear, glaze irregularities, scattered minor abrasions, and wear to the unglazed foot. There are a couple of very small chips along the top edge, as shown in the photographs. Hand-painted decoration remains vibrant and the applied figural and floral elements present beautifully. No major cracks or significant structural damage observed. Please review all photographs closely as they form an important part of the condition description. less
