This is a vintage handcrafted seashell folk-art panel, featuring an elaborate symmetrical arrangement of natural shells mounted against a vivid red fabric-covered board.
The shells are meticulously arranged into large radiating sunburst/rosette motifs, surrounded by looping garlands and smaller geometric patterns. A wonderful assortment of scallop, spiral, cone and glossy rounded shells creates beautiful variations in color and texture—from creamy ivory and blush to warm brown and nearly black. The striking red ground gives the piece an especially graphic, almost textile-like quality.
The handwritten markings on the reverse add to its vintage character, including what appears to be a date or inventory notation. A charming piece of nautical folk art or sailor-inspired shellwork, perfect displayed as coastal wall art or incorporated into a collected gallery wall.
