This distinctive carving features Hotei in an unusual compact curled seated pose, with his bald head bowed forward, rounded body, flowing robe and carved beaded necklace details.

The sculpture has a warm reddish-brown finish that highlights the natural wood grain and hand-carved contours. Its rounded, almost spherical composition gives the piece an especially sculptural appearance and makes it attractive from multiple viewing angles.
