This exceptional example of an early 19th-century Ningxia weaving presents a striking contrast between its deep indigo border and the luminous, buttery field. The sophisticated use of this specific shade of yellow places it among the most sought-after yellow color rugs from the Qing Dynasty period.

The design employs classic Chinese iconography, centered around a finely drawn medallion featuring stylized deer or cranes, symbols of longevity. The open, luminous field is elegantly balanced by scattered sprays of peony blossoms and traditional floral motifs, executed primarily in pale blue and cream, suggesting a refined, courtly aesthetic.

The structure of the piece, characterized by its long, narrow dimensions, suggests it was intended for a specific architectural context, perhaps a gallery or reception hall. This unusual runner format is particularly rare for a Ningxia piece of this age and quality, adding significantly to its collectible value. The triple border system frames the composition with intricate key patterns and geometric vines.

Dating precisely to 1825, this rug represents the height of Chinese weaving during the Daoguang Emperor's reign, showcasing the technical mastery and sophisticated color sense of the period. Its excellent preservation and distinguished provenance ensure its status as a museum-quality example, securing its place among the finest antique rugs available today. See less
