One of the oldest gemstone settings in jewelry, the collet setting was first seen during the Renaissance era when it gained popularity because it was a secure and reliable way to mount precious gemstones. The jewel is set down into a mount with a certain amount of thickness to it. The prongs are both part of the mount and protrude from it to wrap around the edges of the jewel and hold it in place. The Emerald Cut diamond in this necklace has beautiful facets that serve as a mirror into the back of the stone. The collet setting has a black rhodium finish on the face of the setting that mimics the silver-front and patina darkened look of antique jewelry, and makes the shape of the diamond stand out. The mount connects to a fixed bail and hangs from a dainty 18k gold chain.

The natural Emerald Cut diamond comes with a GIA certificate, report # 2516868815. It measures 5.35 x 3.73 x 2.55 mm and weighs 0.50 carats. It is I in color and VS2 in clarity.
