Exceptional vintage Japanese blue and white porcelain jardinière. Measuring a commanding 20 inches in diameter, this substantial fish-bowl style planter features an intricately hand-embellished underglaze cobalt decoration showcasing a central motif of a majestic phoenix (Hō-ō) in flight among stylized clouds and flowing floral vines. The rim is framed with an elegant, dense scrolling ruyi-head pattern, while the base is anchored by a classic geometric key-fret border.
This piece is highly collectible due to its dual authentication marks. The lower body features an integrated, underglaze iron-red four-character square seal stamp reading "志上特製" (Shigami Tokusei), which translates directly to "Specially Made by Shigami." This premium kiln mark denotes a high-quality studio production tier, reserved for exceptionally detailed, decorative showpieces. The unglazed bottom features a stencil-stamped "Made in Japan" export designation, dating this beautiful vessel to the mid-to-late 20th century.
