A superb and rare pair of small Art Deco metal vases with an architectural design and remarkable surface finish.
Details & Metalwork:
Shape & Lines: These vases feature a highly structured oval shape with beveled sides and dark vertical flats framing the convex faces. This rigorous geometry is typical of the sculptural explorations of the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s.
Metalwork & Patina: The body displays a remarkable hammered/speckled patina, ranging from deep bronze and dark brown to golden hues.
Inlays/Niello: The surface is beautifully enhanced with delicate inlays of gilded brass/copper wire depicting organic motifs (amoebas, rings, honeycombing, and small circles). This piece of metalwork is reminiscent of Japanese-inspired compositions and the lacquer/metalwork creations of the great masters of the period (such as Claudius Linossier, Paul Louis Mergier, and Jean Dunand).
