The small wine jar is potted to a gently tapered form and beautifully glazed with neutral earth tones in the manner of Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) cizhou ware.

Loosely brushed characters and botanical motifs decorate the shoulders, painted in brown iron pigments atop a creme-white slip. The sparse design is banded with concentric lines and petal-like borders of freeform brushwork. Now aged with pitted wear and a matte texture, the sculptural wine jar has only become more beautiful with time.

Minor losses throughout. Two hairline cracks to rim.
