Description:
Presenting an absolutely monumental, museum-quality Chinese bronze incense burner (censer). This is an incredibly heavy (42 lbs!) and spectacular piece of craftsmanship, cast in the classic archaic tripod "Ding" shape and heavily influenced by the Ming Dynasty Xuande period.

The body of the censer is densely covered in champlevé/repoussé high-relief carvings featuring continuous scrolling floral motifs, Buddhist symbols (including the Dharma wheel), and intricate geometric bands (meander/Greek key patterns). It stands on three massive cabriole legs, each ending in a fierce beast mask foot.

The piece is flanked by two magnificent, intricately cast dragon handles rising from the shoulders. The domed lid features intricate pierced ventilation panels and is topped by a spectacular, fully sculpted Qilin (or mythical beast) finial holding a flaming pearl. The censer rests securely on its own matching carved bronze base with a stylized cloud/ruyi pattern. The underside bears a deeply cast square seal reading "大明宣德年制" (Made in the Great Ming Xuande Period), a traditional reverence mark.

Condition: Excellent condition. The bronze is solid, heavy, and structurally sound. The dark, rich patina is beautifully uniform and well-preserved. All intricate protruding details (dragon horns, Qilin, feet) are completely intact. Minor surface wear and natural oxidation consistent with age. Please refer to all photos for full details. See less
