This is a magnificent vintage Chinese lacquer box, elaborately decorated with gilt painted dragons in the imperial style.
The rectangular chest is covered in a deep, dark lacquer and adorned with vibrant gold, red, and green painted motifs. The lid features a central dragon motif, while the front panel (and likely the sides) showcase majestic, coiling dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst colorful clouds. The edges are framed by a golden "thunder" (meander) pattern.
It is fitted with an original, aged brass lock plate and clasp at the front.
