An antique American Empire secretary desk, attributed to Quervelle, crafted from flame mahogany and dating to approximately 1840. This substantial piece features a top section with two glazed doors, opening to reveal adjustable shelving suitable for books or display items. The lower section includes a pull-down desk surface, revealing a felt-lined writing area and small compartments, above two full-width drawers. The desk is supported by robust columnar legs with turned feet, characteristic of the Empire style. The flame mahogany exhibits a rich, figured grain, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. The brass hardware on the drawers and doors complements the warm tones of the wood.
