Marc Chagall (1887–1985), “The Candlestick,” 1962
A beautiful original color lithograph by celebrated modernist artist Marc Chagall, created for his renowned “Jerusalem Windows” project and published in 1962.
Titled “The Candlestick,” the composition features a dove alongside a seven-branched menorah or candlestick, surrounded by expressive foliage. Chagall's characteristic dreamlike imagery is rendered in a particularly attractive palette of blue, turquoise, green, yellow and black.
The lithograph was printed in Paris by Mourlot Frères, the legendary fine-art lithographic workshop responsible for producing original lithographs for many of the 20th century's most important artists, including Picasso, Matisse, Miró and Chagall.
Published by André Sauret, Monte Carlo, in 1962 as part of Chagall's Jerusalem Windows publication.
Presented in a handsome dark metal frame (Pottery Barn) with an oversized circular hanging ring that gives the piece additional decorative presence.
A wonderful example of Chagall's distinctive combination of Modernist, Biblical and Judaic imagery.

This is an original 1962 lithograph from the Jerusalem Windows publication and not a later decorative reproduction or poster. It is not one of Chagall's separately issued pencil-signed and numbered large-format lithographs.
