Exceptional Swedish floor lamp from the 1930s, designed by Harald Notini for Böhlmarks and distinguished by its highly decorative “Sea … Read more Exceptional Swedish floor lamp from the 1930s, designed by Harald Notini for Böhlmarks and distinguished by its highly decorative “Sea Monster” motif.

The lamp is executed in beautifully detailed brass and features an elegant curved arm terminating in an elaborate sculptural ornament inspired by a mythical sea creature. The fine cast decoration, scrolling forms and classical detailing demonstrate the high level of craftsmanship associated with Swedish lighting from this period.

The slender fluted brass stem is adjustable in height, allowing the proportions of the lamp to be adapted as required. It stands on a substantial circular brass base decorated with classical details and small ornamental feet.

A large pleated fabric shade completes the composition and casts a warm, atmospheric light. The combination of the sweeping arm, sculptural ornament and refined brasswork gives the lamp an exceptionally elegant and distinctive presence.

A fine example of Swedish Art Deco lighting, combining functionality with highly decorative craftsmanship.
