The commanding field is rendered in a saturated, deep indigo that defines the visual impact of the piece. This rich, profound shade of blue provides a stunning contrast to the subtle ivory, taupe, and pale robin's egg accents, making it a stellar example among blue color rugs. The sparse, open design maximizes the impact of the central medallion and scattered motifs, a hallmark of the sophisticated Peking style.

A beautifully articulated central roundel features a serene aquatic bird nestled among stylized flora, a classic Chinese motif often symbolizing fidelity and longevity. The surrounding navy field is sparsely populated by individual floral sprigs and auspicious vessels, allowing the masterful composition to breathe and showcasing the exceptional quality of the hand-spun wool pile.

The complex border system, incorporating both traditional Chinese fretwork (the key pattern) and lush, scrolling grapevines, frames the composition with architectural precision.
