Original lithograph of the iconic “American Express Train,” published by Currier & Ives in 1864 after a work by celebrated American artist Frances “Fanny” Flora Bond Palmer (1812–1876).
The lively scene captures a steam locomotive traveling through the American landscape, reflecting the optimism, expansion, and fascination with the railroad that defined mid-19th-century America. Palmer was one of Currier & Ives’ most important artists and is especially admired for her detailed landscapes, transportation scenes, and views of American life.
