The atmospheric composition is rendered in layered passages of warm ochre, cream, charcoal, slate gray and blue-green, punctuated by a vivid central field of magenta-pink. Broad gestural brushwork, rubbed and scraped passages, washes and vertical drips create a richly worked surface suggesting an abstracted coastal landscape or waterscape.

The work bears a handwritten inscription on the reverse appearing to read “Chelsea / Brie Maslow / Owens.” Owens is a California-based contemporary artist whose practice encompasses abstract expressionist and figurative painting. After living and exhibiting internationally, including more than a decade in Italy, she established a studio in the hills of Santa Barbara, California, where the coastal landscape became part of her artistic environment. Her exhibition history includes numerous Santa Barbara exhibitions, including Sullivan Goss Gallery and the Santa Barbara Tennis Club. She currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
