This is a superb vintage Chinese Boxwood (Huangyangmu) table screen, featuring an exquisite circular panel with masterful pierced carving (openwork).
The central disc is carved with a majestic Qilin (Kirin), a mythical hooved chimeric beast in Chinese mythology that symbolizes good omens, prosperity, and longevity. The Qilin is depicted treading on swirling clouds, accompanied by auspicious coins. The outer rim of the disc is carved with a classical geometric "thunder" pattern (Huiwen).
The disc is proudly displayed on a delicately carved, tiered wooden stand with scrolling cloud motifs.
This piece is a perfect example of traditional Chinese woodcraft. It is an ideal decorative object for a desk, bookshelf, or display cabinet, bringing a touch of profound cultural symbolism and timeless elegance to any interior.
