This is a spectacular vintage Chinese Boxwood (Huangyangmu) table screen, featuring exquisite, hand-carved openwork and high-relief details.
The screen is shaped like an elegant oval fan with a carved bamboo-style border. The central panel depicts a highly auspicious scene of two plump carp fish swimming around a "Fu" (福 - Good Fortune) character, resting above a bowl of treasures. The background features a finely carved geometric lattice.
In Chinese culture, this "Double Fish" motif symbolizes "Abundance Year After Year" (年年有余).
The screen rests on a beautifully sculpted hardwood stand with elegant scrolling vines and a tiered base.
