This is a magnificent and monumental vintage Chinese Rosewood Screen featuring a large, hand-painted Famille Rose Porcelain Plaque.
The plaque depicts a beautiful, detailed landscape of "Jiangnan" (the region south of the Yangtze River), featuring pavilions, mountains, water, and figures in boats. The painting is rich in pastel colors and includes a poetic calligraphy inscription and artist's seal.
The porcelain is seamlessly set into a heavily carved, dark rosewood frame with openwork geometric borders. The piece stands on a substantial, beautifully carved base with side pillars (standing jaws) and a decorative apron panel.
