This is a magnificent vintage Chinese Huali (Rosewood) tabletop chest, meticulously hand-carved with deep relief motifs.
The standout feature is the lid, which is elaborately carved with a majestic motif of "Double Dragons Presenting Auspiciousness", showing two sinuous dragons surrounded by clouds. This is a traditional Chinese symbol of power and good fortune. The front features three drawers with panels carved with auspicious geometric patterns, all fitted with original wooden knobs.
The piece rests on small, rounded wooden feet. The wood has a beautiful, reddish-brown tone and a rich patina that highlights the intricate carving.
With its generous proportions (14.4 inches wide) and heavy, substantial feel, this chest is incredibly versatile.
