A striking and highly decorative carved giltwood wall mirror featuring elaborate openwork scrolls, acanthus leaves, and architectural detailing in the Rococo/Baroque tradition. The rectangular mirror plate is surrounded by a dramatically sculptural frame, crowned with a prominent carved crest and flowing foliate ornamentation.
The frame retains a beautifully aged warm gold and bronze-toned finish with visible layers of earlier surface color beneath, giving the piece exceptional depth and character. The hand-worked appearance, irregularities in the carving, aged wood construction, and patinated surface contribute to its authentic old-world presence.
Viewed from the back, the frame shows traditional wood construction with reinforcing members and an older backing arrangement. This is an impressive statement mirror that would work beautifully in a European-inspired interior, entry hall, powder room, bedroom, above a console or chest, or incorporated into an eclectic contemporary room.
The mirror is being offered in **as-found vintage/antique condition**, retaining its age-related wear and restoration history.
Mirror Dimensions are 22 X 28 3/4
Condition
Fair antique/vintage condition consistent with age and use. The frame exhibits **surface wear, rubbing and losses to the gilt finish, exposed underlying reddish tones, scattered chips and small losses to the carved ornament, age cracks, separations, and evidence of previous repairs/reinforcement**. The reverse backing is aged and torn in areas, and the hanging system appears to have been replaced or reinforced over time.
These imperfections are visible in the photographs and contribute to the mirror's aged character and patina. We recommend professional installation appropriate for the mirror's size, weight and age.
