A very handsome English port or wine decanter made from bell metal, steel and iron, supported on a mahogany base in the shape of a shield.
The bottle pourer has a central handmade steel screw, powered by a lovely bone handle. The frame itself is made from bell metal, which gives it a lovely light gold color, as opposed to brass. The cradle is also hand made, as things all were before the Industrial Revolution. The piece is supported on a shield shaped mahogany base, and is raised on hand turned feet.
A mechanical spirits pourer or decanting cradle is an artisan-like decanting device - turning the screw activates the cradle mechanism, which pours the wine in a very measured, deliberate manner. The reason for these decanter devices was to keep sediment from getting poured into wine glasses. It allows time for the sediment to settle at the bottom of the bottle before it has the chance to travel down the neck of the bottle and pollute the served glass of wine.
It is a masterful way of decanting and presenting fine spirits - this decanting cradle makes the perfect gift for any wine lover. Wine bottle not included.
